Born in Brazil, Nathalie Fari is one of the few performance artists who work predominately site-specific. Her pictorial and atmospheric actions which she also calls as “living images” take place in diverse environments such as the white cube, flats, niches, shop windows and so on. Her abstract and minimalistic actions are aimed at counteracting the increasing abundance of stimuli and possibilities and thus, to open new thinking spaces for the viewer. This approach can be associated with Thiago Bortolozzo’s paintings of empty amusement parks, which also employ an abstract and minimalistic visual language. By developing a joint performative action, the water slides and the swimming pool of Thiago’s wooden installation suggest a playground and potentially, a new thinking space. Additionally, their action touch upon the relationship between the inner and the outer space: While Nathalie develops her action in the gallery space near, above and under the installation, Thiago doubles and expands her movements outside the gallery. Like this, the elements of transition, emptiness and doubleness as indicated in Tiago’s work, are altered, reconstructed and reinterpreted through their performative actions.
